Cannon Pictures was a film distribution company that was launched on October 23, 1967 until it went out of business in December 1994. Many of its films were hits (eg. Runaway Train with Jon Voight, Eric Roberts and Rebecca DeMornay) while some of the other films the company distributed flopped at the box office including the critically panned Superman IV: The Quest For Peace and the Masters of the Universe. The primary reasons that Cannon Pictures went out of business were due to budget cuts in filmmaking and due to their later films receiving poor reception at the box office (eg. Cyborg with Jean Claude Van-Damme).
