The Conqueror is a 1956 American adventure-drama film directed by Dick Powell, produced by Howard Hughes and starring John Wayne as the Mongul conqueror Genghis Khan, along with Susan Hayward, Agnes Moorehead, Pedro Armendáriz, Thomas Gomez, John Hoyt, and two of Wayne's sons, Michael and Patrick.
Despite success at the box office, the film is considered one of the worst movies ever made.
Temujin, chief of the Mongols, believes he has been betrayed and sets out to find the traitors and conquer the Tartars.
Why it sucks
- John Wayne is seriously miscast as Genghis Khan, as a Mongol should not be played by a white actor.
- The film was shot a few miles from the Nevada National Security Site where nuclear weapons were tested. The crew knew about the tests but still filmed in that area. Several of the cast and crew were said to have contacted cancer and died as a result.
- Very boring
